Its usury plain and simple at best, at worst its fraud and ebay should be prosecuted! Paypal + Ebay + Shipping owned by one company is just plain disgusting. I suggest a letter campaign to state attorney’s and elected officials. I have included Florida Department of Law enforcement.
Keep this in mind, charging for a service in a state requires paying tax in that state, both sales and income.

Dude, your post makes no sense and does not justify recent adsense rev drop. What have you been smoking. Look at the CTR people are posting. It’s down more than 50% which has nothing to do with demand and savings. Looks like one of the valves has been tighten to compensate for increasing expense that google been adding.

We have a large selection of unique and hard to find items and would love to get them out there and we used to be able to but the new Google Shopping product feed specs are impossible to follow unless you have very few items, no color or size choices or have money to burn revamping your website and feeds. What I suggest if you can’t get you products listed just go take all you products and ad money to Bing. Google Shopping, since September 22, 2011 is pretty much geared for the big guys like Target, the only store you will find in many of the searches in which we used to do great. Now we don’t even show up. We did try to get help from Google with no response. Not even a “Sorry, Google no longer supports small business.” courtesy letter. So, what we did is pull all our ads and killed our Google Checkout. GOOD BYE GOOGLE SHOPPING, ADWORDS AND CHECKOUT. HELLO BING, HERE WE COME WITH OUR MONEY.

Wow! I just got dinged by Ebay and wasn’t aware of their new policy on shipping. I have complained and I am swearing off Ebay! They tried to explain this was to help the buyer and that if we offered “free shipping”then they “the buyer” would be more likely to buy our product. I told them I didn’t care and that I only charged my actual shipping cost. I should have the choice of being charged an additional fee for the way I choose to do business. It is not right for Ebay to take a cut of shipping. They are getting their extra 9% or whatever amount they are taking as their fees no matter what we do and that is wrong! It also goes to prove the theory that more taxes doesn’t make the economy better, it just causes prices to to go up while everything else remains the same or gets worse! Craigslist certainly works well for me on other things, guess I will continue to use it for the smaller items as well.

After talking to a Ebay rep about this shipping fees I will have to now make a decision about raising my auction prices or just go to another auction site to sell my items, his answear was that the reason ebay started to charge fees on shipping is ” ebay sellers selling $499.00 items for 99 cents but charging a $500.00 shipping & Handling fee which naturally allowed ebay to only collect ther fee on 99 cents” my question was ” how often does this actually happen ? ” with millions of ebay auctins please tell me actually how many 99 cent auctions take place out of every thousand sales ???? also, why punish the ebay sellers with a fee to make up for the wrong of a few ” Kick them off ebay for doing that , I honesty do not understand how this is legal all because ebay has NO involvement what soever with shipping ? all I can say is that Ebay is very greedy & as dishonest as was Enron with there fraud to steal billions from stock holders & had the Goverment protect them, I am hoping that some other on line auction comes out that gives ebay a challenge , everytime something gets to big it gets corrupt & ebay , you are way to big & you are greedy & corrupt & sooner or later there will be a fall coming!

Couldn’t agree more. There had to be a lawsuit filed in some sort of way. How can they possibly charge a fee for something they aren’t even a part of? It absolutely makes ZERO sense.

Please understand the difference between a shipping surcharge and a final value fee. Ebay is charging a final value fee on the sell price of the item and the total shipping charges. This fee is 9 to 12%. The only consideration that may be borderline illegal is that ebay is collecting funds on a service that they do not offer or play a role in providing the seller. The USPS, UPS, FEDX or other delivery services have no say in what ebay is doing. The Better Business Bureau is also aware of this new policy and has refrained from getting involved.

The problem with this added fee is that it cuts deeply into any potential profit that a seller might have gained. Currently, a seller is allowed 50 free standard listings per month. If the item sells, the seller pays a final value fee on the total amount of the sale including shipping costs. The funds are collected for the seller through Paypal which also charges the seller $.30 cents per transaction plus 2.9% on average. This can vary depending on the sale itself, but a fee non the less is charged. So, if a seller sells an item for $10.00 and ships it for $5.00, the cost to the seller is approx $2.25. That is almost 25%.

By now, you can understand why so many sellers are leaving ebay or adding higher shipping handling costs to offset this new fee. However, a sellers reputation is on the line now, because buyers can leave feedback for a seller essentially “dinging” the seller on low performance ratings. These are called DSRs. If a seller gets low DSRs, ebay can suspend a seller or limited the amount that the seller sells. Either way, Ebay comes out smelling like a rose. Of course, Ebay does have to pay off their 30 million law suit that they lost last year, but this is NOT the ways to do it.

This would be a great time to start the original principles of Ebay under a new company name. However, the cost up expense would be high in the current economy, but in the long run, worth it.

I am putting this in my listings :
I charge ACTUAL shipping costs plus a $1 handling fee. The $1 handling fee partially offsets my costs for packing materials, costs to take items to the post office and my time packaging items. Please Use the shipping calculator in all of my auctions to determine the total shipping costs before you bid. Please note the handling fee is included in the results the shipping calculator provides.
NOTE : Beginning in Mid April 2011, Ebay Corporation will be adding a 10 – 12 % surcharge to sellers for shipping. At this time I will raise my shipping and handling fee from $1 to $1.75 to PARTIALLY offset these surcharges. If you as my customers are not happy with these surcharges please contact Ebay support. This surcharge is NOT in the control of the sellers. I urge you to not give lower DSL ratings to honest sellers who charge actual shipping costs, but instead to contact Ebay support for an explanation of this surcharge. Sellers have been advised by Ebay executives to raise their product prices or their handling fees to offset these surcharges.

Hello. I am an 11 year seller on Ebay. This is my way of making an income. I am a single parent and Ebay is my only source of income. Basically, Ebay is double dipping. They have now basically decided to take our “handling fees”. Every online company that I know charges a shipping/handing fee. My shipping fees have never been inflated more than one dollar. I do not think their new rule is even ethical! Something needs to be done about this. As if they don’t get enough money from sellers; through final value fees and through PayPal! They insisted that buyers only take PayPal and no longer accept Money Orders, which I thought was also unethical! What about buyers who don’t like to pay online? Plus, it was only about them making more money and monopolizing the system. This new rule has gone too far. I honestly think this is a case for a law suit! Let me know if there is anything you need me to do. Amanda
